Now, we are going to listen to the English translation, sung by a contralto, not a mezzo-soprano. Yet, with the amazing light touch of Marian Anderson’s upper register, we hear the lyric beauty of the music.

She does not labor at either end of her musical range. She sings with such pure emotion that I think even the angles weep when she sings.
