Gershwin–Funny Face, What Am I/My One and Only, Tommy Tune

So far we have heard the second song from Act Two of the 1927 musical, Funny Face–“He Loves and She Loves.” The fourth song was originally titled “What Am I Going to Do?” in the opening night program. But after a while, it was renamed to “My One and Only.” It is a catchy little tune, but certainly it is not one of George and Ira Gershwin’s best.

We are going to play two recordings of this song, but we are going to play them out of order. Our first clip comes from a 1983 recording and is sung by Tommy Tune. In this arrangement, we hear a very pleasant melody with some orchestrated emphasis in the background. But this is not a jazz tune; it is a Broadway arrangement that emphasizes a smooth, even tone. We think you will like it.
