Henderson et al–Good News, Best Things Free, Jack Hylton 1928
We are about to highlight the last of the three songs of note that came out of the musical, Good News; it is “The Best Things in Life Are Free.” However, this will not be the end of our discussion of the show. On Monday, we will have a special treat–a ten minute video that will capture some more recent performances of two of these songs, “The Best Things in Life Are Free” and “The Varsity Drag.”
Today, let’s explore the 1928 Jack Hylton recording of “The Best Things in Life Are Free.”
The moon belongs to everyone,
The best things in life are free;
The stars all shine for everyone,
They’re shining for you and me.
The flowers in Spring,
The birdies that sing,
The sunbeams that shine,
They’re yours–they’re mine.
And Love can come to everyone,
The best things in life are free!
