Henderson et al–Black Bottom, jazz greats

The third version does not add anything new to the musical conversation, but it does permit us to listen to three great jazz musicians. Under the pseudonym “The Astorites,” the Fred Rich Hotel Astor Orchestra recorded “The Black Bottom” in 1926, featuring Tommy Dorsey, Red Nichols and Adrian Rollini. In four years, Red Nichols would have his own orchestra, many of whom would be used in the pit orchestra for the George and Ira Gershwin musical, Girl Crazy. Tommy’s brother, Jimmy was in the pit, along with Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Glenn Miller and two brothers, Charlie and Jack Teagarden.
