Gershwin–OK, Dear Little Girl

Jimmy’s return has put a knot in Shorty’s plans to run booze out of the house; however, as all the hooch is in the basement, all is calm on the surface for the time being. So, Shorty does the logical thing and pretends to be the new butler. It seems that everyone has a key to Jimmy’s beach house.

When Jimmy arrives with Constance, his new wife, everything is light and gay; until, of course, Jimmy finds out that his previous marriage has not been terminated, either by annulment or divorce. Constance departs in a huff, looking for her father, while Jimmy finds comfort in thanking the girls for all of their efforts. He knows them all by name, which becomes an innocent part of the banter that fills the song, “Dear Little Girl.”

This time, I will share the Jack Cassidy version with you first. Then we can listen to the Nonesuch recording.
