Rodgers–DE, Bye and Bye song
Finally, we come to the song itself. Here is Larry Moore’s recollection of what was available and what needed to be reconstructed.
“The Century Library parts have this number in F, the key of the published song. The verse and refrain have repeat signs with first and second endings. I put the Century Library parts into full score, and then wrote a new orchestration based on that score to replace a rather pedestrian orchestration for such a moving song. The trumpet and trombone needed thinning, and I decided as well to write, for a final refrain in a different key, a vocal arrangement inspired by the Donald Novis-Gloria Grafton recording of “My Romance” from a radio broadcast of Jumbo.”
