Gershwin–Lady Be Good, Smithsonian Part 1

Today, we are going to start with a reconstruction by the Smithsonian; they tried to find copies of original recordings of songs from the show. The LP recording was put on youtube in two parts.

In part 1, we hear about one minute of George Gershwin on the piano, playing the song “Fascinating Rhythm.” We hear the Astaire’s (Fred and Adele) singing “Hang on to Me” until 3:45; then Cliff Edwards sings “Fascinating Rhythm” until 6:45; then George plays “So Am I” until around the ten minute mark; but the recording then goes silent and we miss the Astaire’s singing “So Am I” and W. Kent singing “Oh, Lady Be Good.”

We are coming back next week to play more music from this great show.
