Eubie Blake–Low Down Blues

The next two posts are blues songs written by Eubie Blake before he worked on Shuffle Along. The first song is called “Low Down Blues” and is sung by members of the original Broadway cast. In the Norton Chronology, this song was part of a medley performed by Sissle and Blake, called “A Few Minutes with Sissle and Blake.”

While Eubie Blake is usually mentioned along with Scott Joplin as a ragtime composer, Eubie was quite adept at many forms of syncopated music; and he wrote some wonderful blues songs, this being one.
