Let me say a word about the vagaries of Broadway. The show that we have just enjoyed, Have a Heart, closed after only 76 performances. The score was brilliant, and the story was acceptable. The second show in 1917 was another Kern show, this time, Love O’ Mike. It ran for 233 performances, but only one song continues to be sung for its score. I cannot explain it.

The one song was recorded in 1992 by John McGlinn in his Jerome Kern Treasury. It is “Drift with Me,” and it is sung here by the wonderful Jeanne Lehman.
