Berlin–The Girl

Believe it or not, we are not finished with 1915! On Christmas Day, December 25, 1915, Irving Berlin’s second show opened on Broadway, with orchestrations by Frank Saddler. It was Stop! Look! Listen! The show had two Berlin numbers that will be forever a part of his songbook. The first song was titled “The Girl on the Magazine” on opening night; however, we know the song as “The Girl on the Magazine Cover.”

We are going to provide two versions of this song. The first version is a 1916 recording of the song by Harry MacDonough, which probably is the most accurate style and tempo for the song. However, it is also stiff and uninteresting, in our humble opinion. Our second version will follow shortly, and it is taken from the 1948 movie, Easter Parade.
