Sweethearts–Pretty as a Picture
In 1938, Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy made their first color movie, Sweethearts, with a screenplay that was co-written by Dorothy Parker. The first song we are going to feature was “Pretty As a Picture,” and please watch closely as we see around the 2:44 minute mark, Nelson blowing softly on Jeanette’s neck to distract her. Rather than be distraught or annoyed, she laughs at the joke and turns toward him, almost saying out loud–“You naughty boy.” They really did have fun together; and made some beautiful music. In just a minute, we will publish the second song that we are going to feature from this movie, their rendition of the duet, “Sweethearts.”
