Explanation of Norton Notation

When we refer to Broadway shows, we will sometimes use a notation found in Norton’s Chronology of American Musical Theater.  It consists of the year that a show was first produced on Broadway, along with the sequential order in which it was produced.  For example, Show Boat was produced in 1927 and was the 67th show produced that year; the notation in Norton’s three volume set is 1927.67.
