As we open Act Three of Eileen, we hear Choir Boys (The Boy Choristers of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin) sing Herbert’s Ave Maria. Dinny is then encouraged to sing to Lady Maude for her support of the cause. He sings an ode to her beauty with a soft and almost falsetto vocal quality. In a role reversal, she accepts the compliment and returns with one of her own. In full voice, she sings of her friends, “true sons of Erin!”

The chorus then repeats the refrain.
