Today, we are going to listen to two versions of “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man.” The song is needed because Magnolia has run to tell Julie of the handsome stranger on the dock. Julie asks Magnolia to consider that the man may not be a good man. Magnolia quickly responds by saying that she will rid herself of the man if he is a “no-account.” Julie cautions Magnolia by saying that it is not that easy once you fall in love.

In the 1936 movie, Irene Dunne played the role of Magnolia and Helen Morgan played the role of Julie. Hattie McDaniel and Paul Robeson join in later on.
