Kern–SB, You Are love, Jerry and Frederica
Two years later, in 1927, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II collaborated on another musical, this time the historic, Show Boat. From this collaboration, we have heard the magnificent creation, “Ol’ Man River,” a song so unique that it is incomparable. Also, in that show were three other songs that qualify as arias: “Make Believe,” Why Do I Love You” and “You Are Love.” We have chosen “You Are Love,” and we are going to use the Jerry Hadley and Frederica von Stade duet from their appearance at Avery Fisher Hall in 1990. We love the musical momentum that the song provides, from beginning to end; we love the opportunity to see and hear Jerry one more time (may he rest in eternal peace); we love to see and hear Frederica von Stade. She doesn’t seem to age; only to continue to blossom. We only hope you will spare 4 minutes to listen to this masterpiece.
