Kiss Me, Kate–1958 Hallmark

We just got this information from Rich Ubert, and we know that many of you will be interested. So, we thought that the best way to get Rich’s review out to you was to publish an extra post right now.

Rich Ubert I just viewed the 1958 Hallmark Hall of Fame production of Kiss Me Kate. I really liked it. They do mention in the sleeve, some editing of the songs took place, no doubt to fit it into the television time slot, ( the running time of the DVD is 78 minutes, how long the telecast would have lasted. My guess at least an hour and a half. As for the performances, it definitely has the feel of a raw stage production. Alfred Drake and Patricia Morison do have a chemistry between them as Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi. The singing and dancing are excellent by the cast. I felt it was worth buying the DVD as a lover of Broadway musicals, both from a performance and a hsitorical aspect.
