Porter–Let’s do it, Louis

Today, we are going to share with you three different versions of “(Let’s Do It) Let’s Fall in Love.” The first is from Louis Armstrong. We use Louis Armstrong a great of the time that is partly because we want to hear music from the jazz side of the spectrum. However, in the case of the American songbook (mostly recorded on the Verve label), we post Armstrong’s performances because of his exquisite timing embedding in his popular music interpretations. They are not all perfect, but they are all unique.

Our second selection features Ella Fitzgerald, who usually also represents the jazz side of musical expression. However, this time she is singing it straight with the London Symphony Orchestra. The outcome is a gem.

Finally, we have a clip from the 1960 movie, Can-Can, a film adaptation that included many of Cole Porter’s songs. In this clip we watch Frank Sinatra try to convince Shirley MacLaine that they should not get married in order to stay in love with each other.

But first, here’s Louis.
