R&H–South Pacific–A Wonderful guy
Following up on yesterday’s post of George Gershwin’s “I’ve Got Rhythm,” we now would like to present Robert Russell Bennett’s swing orchestration of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, “I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy.” The performance is by Mary Martin from the original cast recording of South Pacific in 1949. You will notice the repetition of “I’m in Love” which was intentionally used to build the song to a suitable conclusion. In comparison with “I’ve Got Rhythm,” this song has a more controlled tempo and style, one much more appropriate for the WWII period.
