Rodgers–DE, The Hermits
We are going to finish Act One of Dearest Enemy today. The next song is an amusing bit of byplay between Tryon and Mrs. Murray, called “The Hermits.” Tryon asks about the Bronx; Mrs. Murray explains that it is so far away that the only inhabitants are wild animals and hermits. Tryon flirts by saying that, if Mrs. Murray would move to the Bronx, Tryon would love to be one of the hermits. He asks about the animals in the Bronx; Herb Fields gave Mrs. Murray a great one-liner: “Oh, I guess there will always be wild animals in the Bronx.”
