Romberg–Desert Song, the desert song/song movie

We are back to the operetta, The Desert Song and are nearing the end of Act I. The Red Shadow and Margot are alone and sing this wonderful duet called “The Desert Song”(Blue Heaven). We have three versions to share with you today. We are going to start with Carlotta King and John Boles singing the duet from the 1929 movie.

My desert is waiting;
Dear, come there with me.
I’m longing to teach you
Love’s sweet melody.
I’ll sing a dream-song to you,
Painting a picture for two:
Blue heaven and you and I,
And sand kissing a moonlit sky.
A desert breeze whisp’ring a lullaby,
Only stars above you
To see I love you.
Oh, give me that night divine
And let my arms in yours entwine.
The desert song calling,
Its voice enthralling
Will make you mine.
Cool zephyrs shall fan you
In noon’s fiery hour,
In shady oases
We’ll seek for a bow’r.
Allah sends gifts from above;
Gives you my life and my love.
Blue heaven and you and I,
And sand kissing a moonlit sky.
A desert breeze whisp’ring a lullaby,
Only stars above you
To see I love you.
Oh, give me that night divine
And let my arms in yours entwine.
The desert song calling,
Its voice enthralling
Will make you mine.
