The Century Girl VH

As we move from historical relevance outlined in Monday’s post (about how public sentiment turned on Germany after U-20 sunk the Lusitania in May 1915), we now should to listen to a musical example of the point made on Monday. The song we are about to feature is from the revue, The Century Girl, and is written by Victor Herbert. It reflects the shifting sentiment in America, as we sought to defend our right to navigate the oceans without interference. The song is called “When Uncle Sam Rules the Wave (When Uncle Sam Is Ruler of the Sea)” and is the show’s patriotic Act Two Finale. It is sung here with great fervor by Aaron Lazar.
