Guys and Dolls–Part Four (More Video Clips)
This post is the continuation of Part Three and will show more video footage of the musical, Guys and Dolls. Starting with the 1955 movie, we have a video clip of Stubby Kaye leading the “Fugue for Tinhorns.”
Next, we have a clip from the 1955 movie of the song, “Guys and Dolls,” featuring Frank Sinatra, along with Stubby Kaye and Johnny Silver.
We are going to move into the climatic “Crapshooters’ Dance” that precedes the song, “Luck Be a Lady.” We have a video of the dance from the 2017 Stratford Festival; however, here it is called the “Crapshooters’ Ballet.”
Moving into the following song, “Luck Be a Lady,” we have two clips. The first clip is from a July 2017 performance by Terence Archie at The Old Globe in San Diego.
The second clip is from the 1992 revival; the video captures Peter Gallagher and the male chorus in the recording studio, as they sing “Luck Be a Lady.”
We now come to our last series of video clips, as different performers sing “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat.” First, we have Stubby Kaye from the 1955 movie.
The second version of the song is provided by the Stratford Festival, 2017.
Finally, we come to a video clip from the Tony Awards, featuring Walter Bobbie and the 1992 revival cast.
We are going to start an examination of Frank Loesser’s score for the movie, Hans Christian Anderson, in our next post, scheduled for Tuesday, next week.
